  I  came across Do Son through a 2 ml free sample (edt) that I received in a bricks-and-mortar perfume store in 2012 (see the picture below). The ingredients listed on the back of the cardboard packaging in which the sample was offered are the following:

SD Alcohol 39 C (Alcohol Denat.), Fragrance (Parfum), Water (Aqua), Linalool, Eugenol, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Isoeugenol, Citronellol, Benzyl Benzoate, Geraniol, Benzyl Alcohol, Farnesol.

I really liked it; it was feminine, floral, sweet but not cloying, warm, dense and airy at the same time. And based on that specimen, I bought online a 50 ml bottle of Do Son (edt) this year, 2018. In the first seconds, I recognized the smell from the past. Nonetheless, I also observed something different: the sweetness and the femininity of the sample were missing.

And only now it came to me to study side by side the two lists of ingredients. The allergens type and the order in which they are written on the packages are the only elements that I can compare. And as it easy to see, some dissimilarities do exist, the ingredients below appearing on just one perfume and not on the other: 

- Butylphenyl Methylpropional and Benzyl Alcohol only on the 2 ml sample. 

- Hydroxycitronellal and Farnesol only on the 50 ml bottle. 

However, this fact does not exclude that these ingredients are contained by both perfume versions in the so-called Fragrance (Parfum). And if there are other discrepancies to the chemical formulae in Fragrance (Parfum), then Diptyque is the only at liberty to say. 

It is clear to me that the odours of the two perfumes differ. The fragrant characteristics of the sample are untraceable in the full bottle of the fragrance. 

But how does the recent Do Son smell? Like a combination of soft plastic, rubber and sap from a herbaceous plant stem. The aroma is not sensational, nor detestable, rather artificial, yet wearable. I think I catch a metallic shade, but vaguelly. The aroma is airy, even slightly fizzy and exactly these two components are the ones that save it from being completly unattractive. 

The first sprayings of Do Son elicit a light feeling of nausea in my stomach, something that never happened to me before with a perfume. Maybe also because the scent is penetrating and alive. 

Although the benzoin and the musk are base notes, this eau de toilette has nothing vanilic or sweet in its bones. As such, Do Son gets more abstract than before. It is neither feminine nor masculine. 

I picked up three tuberoses from the florist just to see why people think it is a fragrance dominated by this flower. The tuberose discharges a floral, slightly sweet, warm, round, dense, potent, arresting, fleshy, mysterious odour and also an aroma of used coffee grounds, elements that are not present in Do Son. The tuberose equally emits a new vinyl table cloth scent plus a rubbery/plasticky/vegetal one, similar but not quite to that of Do Son. The tuberose tends to be slightly disagreeable, heavy, although in a specific way that I accept and which does not cause me nausea. I would fancy a real tuberose to Do Son any day of the week. 

Interestingly, Do Son's aroma left on my clothes the following day is clearly more pleasant and more attractive than in the beginnings. Now comes to the surface the exotic, narcotic nature specific to white flowers with its tropical vibration, yet still maintaining the earlier relaxation/breeziness. It is more feminine, but not by much. The fizziness has disappered and everything seems rounder. The projection is low while the persistence feels good. 

In conclusion, the Do Son bought in 2018 feels not even like a sister to the Do Son sample from 2012; they are more like distant cousins. 

As long as Diptyque does not specify anywhere about the obvious change suffered over the years by the perfume marketed in the same packaging, the brand performs a deceptive practice against the consumer. 

Mention: the grade given to Do Son reflects only the smell of the perfume and does not include my disappointment with the change in the fragrant formula. 

My verdict: 7 out of 10.

 A m intrat în contact cu Do Son prin intermediul unei mostre de 2 ml (edt) oferite gratuit într-un magazin fizic de parfumuri în anul 2012 (vezi imaginea de sus). Ingredientele menționate pe spatele cutiei de carton în care se găsea sticluța sunt următoarele: 

SD Alcohol 39 C (Alcohol Denat.), Fragrance (Parfum), Water (Aqua), Linalool, Eugenol, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Isoeugenol, Citronellol, Benzyl Benzoate, Geraniol, Benzyl Alcohol, Farnesol.

Mi-a plăcut foarte mult; era feminin, floral, dulce, dar nu exagerat, cald, dens și aerisit în același timp. Și în baza acelei mostre, mi-am cumpărat on-line o sticlă de 50 ml de Do Son (edt) anul acesta, 2018. În primele secunde, am recunoscut mirosul din trecut. Totuși, am observat și ceva diferit: îi lipseau dulceața și feminitatea pe care le-am simțit în mostră. 

Și abia în acest moment m-am gândit să studiez în paralel cele două liste de ingrediente. Tipul alergenilor și ordinea în care sunt scriși pe ambalaje sunt singurele elemente pe care le pot compara. Iar după cum poate fi observat ușor, există niște deosebiri, ingredientele de mai jos apărând doar pe unul dintre parfumuri, nu și pe celălalt: 

- Butylphenyl Methylpropional si Benzyl Alcohol doar pe mostra de 2 ml; 

- Hydroxycitronellal si Farnesol doar pe sticla de 50 ml. 

Dar acest lucru nu exclude ca aceste ingrediente să fie conținute de ambele variante de parfum în așa-numitul Fragrance (Parfum). Iar dacă există discrepanțe între formulele chimice și în Fragrance (Parfum), atunci doar cei de la Diptique știu. 

Însă mie îmi este clar că aroma celor două parfumuri diferă. Nu regăsesc deloc caracteristicile fragrante din mostră în sticla mare de parfum. 

Dar cum miroase Do Son, cel cumpărat recent? Ca o combinație de plastic moale, cauciuc și sevă de tulpină de plantă erbacee. Nu este o aromă extraordinară, dar nici detestabilă, destul de artificială și totuși purtabilă. Cred că detectez o nuanță metalică, dar vag. Mirosul este aerisit, chiar puțin efervescent și tocmai aceste două componente spun eu că îl salvează din a fi complet neplăcut. 

Acest miros de început al lui Do Son îmi provoacă o ușoară stare de greață fizică, ceea ce nu mi s-a mai întâmplat niciodată cu niciun alt parfum în viața mea. Poate și pentru că este pătrunzător și viu. Cu toate că benzoea și moscul apar ca note de bază, această apă de toaletă nu are nimic vanilat sau dulce în ea. Ca urmare, Do Son pare și mai abstract. Nu este nici feminin, nici masculin. 

Mi-am luat trei fire de tuberoză de la florărie ca să văd de ce lumea îl consideră un parfum dominat de această floare. Tuberoza emană un parfum clar floral, dulceag, cald, rotund, dens, puternic, dominant, carnal, misterios și o aromă diluată de zaț de cafea, elemente care lipsesc din Do Son. Și da, tuberoza reală emite și ea un miros de cauciuc/plastic/vegetal, dar nu chiar ca cel din Do Son, și chiar de față de masă nouă din PVC. Tuberoza tinde să fie puțin dificilă, grea, dar în alt fel, într-un mod pe care îl accept și care nu-mi provoacă stare de rău fizic. Aș prefera oricând o tuberoză reală în locul lui Do Son. 

În mod interesant, mirosul lui Do Son simțit a doua zi pe haine este clar mai plăcut și mai atractiv decât cel pulverizat inițial. Acum simt caracterul exotic, narcotic specific florii albe, o aromă florală cu vibrație tropicală, însă la fel de relaxată/aerisită ca la început. Este ceva mai feminin, însă nu cu mult. Aspectul efervescent a dispărut acum și totul pare rotunjit. Intensitatea este foarte scăzută și persistența acceptabilă pe haine. 

În concluzie, apa de toaletă Do Son cumpărată în 2018 nu pare nici măcar ca o soră pentru apa de toaletă din mostra din 2012, ci mai degrabă ca o verișoară. 

Deoarece Diptique nu menționează nicăieri schimbarea evidentă a aromei parfumului vândut în același ambalaj identic de-a lungul anilor, brandul efectuează o practică de înșelare a consumatorului. 

Mențiune: nota acordată ține cont exclusiv doar de mirosul parfumului și nu include dezamăgirea proprie referitoare la schimbarea formulei. 

Nota mea: 7 din 10.
