Although it has its own personality, I perceive elements from other fragrances in Mal-aimé.
Mal-aimé also goes in the direction of cigar tobacco, revealing a subdued animalic component (the idea of faecas) as the one I encountered in Romanza by Masque Milano and Tabac tabou by Parfum d'Empire.
Mal-aimé smells of a low-alcohol drink, aromatic and bitter, made of herbs, one which additionally includes peach skin and maybe even dried plums. Together with the aforementioned fenugreek, I am reminded of Fougère bengale by Parfum d'Empire.
There is a fish-like facet in Mal-aimé that I find intriguing. All I can add is that the fish is not raw so it does not smell metallic. And it would be inexact to use "marine" as a descriptor.
The fragrance does not change too much with time. A slightly sour and citrussy nuance appears in the drydown, only on skin and not on clothes, and I like that. The next day, the tobacco note persists on the fabric and the earthiness now comes from what it seems to be patchouli.
When I first smelled Mal-aimé, something from it made me think of the arnica body oil that I used years ago called Sport- & Massage-Öl by the brand Alverde**. I should try it again to see if my memory serves me right.
With good intensity and persistence, this dense, mature and unisex fragrance conquered me completely.
My verdict: 10 out of 10.
