 Open is one of those fragrances that sparked my imagination the moment I sniffed it.

I immediately told myself that it smells vintage, like a perfume from another era, and oldish. In just a few seconds, my brain illustrated to me the thing I was thinking of. Well, the picture of an aged man composed in my head, undoubtedly British (not sure why), standing somewhere on a footway, the pavement covered in brown and golden leaves. It was evidently autumn, the air
breezy, and the sky cloudy. That man was elegantly dressed in a thick overcoat, long till the ankles, green with sparse small brown spots, made out of wool, having the texture slightly coarse resembling the hard part of a kitchen sponge (maybe I exaggerate a little) (just like in the picture below). If I want to be more precise, I am thinking of that clothing material which gives off a dung scent when it gets wet by the rain droplets.

Open has nothing sweet in it and I situate it in the so-called 100% masculine fragrances category. Only by its smell, I do not feel it harbours too many ingredients. It is linear for sure because its scent does not evolve as time passes by. I even perceive it somewhat raw. And this is exactly the thing that pulls me towards it.

I do not feel any of the perfumed notes to individually rise to the surface. But, if I look at their wholeness, I begin to undestand how this can be a mixture of lemon, bergamot, lavender, sage, thyme, tobacco, patchouli, and vetiver. It makes sense. Open clearly smells aromatic and I get nothing synthetic from it.

That being said, I regard the perfume's body to revolve around a slightly smoked, sour, and a tad sharp note, which to me smells like burnt leaves. Just the way it happens with somebody's clothes and hair when standing next to this kind of smoke, the same way Open could have smelled foul. But nothing of the sort. Some ingredient relaxes the composition and I believe it must be the lavender.

At the same time, the fragrance emits a light bitterness which makes me think of how the lemon zest tastes or even the flavour felt on the tongue when drinking water after smoking.

I distinguish in Open a cold and a warm side in equal manner maybe because I assimilate the smell of burnt leaves to the warm part, and the lavender and the citruses to the cold part.

I have to mention one more thing. There are some extremely manly fragrances that smell like soap/pine/herbaceous on some persons, only to transform themselves in something unpleasant on others, in the aroma of perspiration. One example that come to my mind in this moment is Quorum by Antonio Puig. From what I see, Open follows the same pattern. But this downside does not diminish its value in my eyes.

I enjoy so much the way Open smells. And this shows that a valuable thing does not have to cost a fortune.

My verdict: 10 out of 10.

 Open este unul dintre acele parfumuri care mi-a provocat imaginația imediat ce l-am simțit.

Mi-am zis că miroase vechi, ca un parfum din altă epocă și bătrânesc. Creierul meu mi-a ilustrat la ce se referea în câteva secunde. Ei bine, mi s-a format în minte imaginea unui domn în vârstă, cu siguranță britanic (nu știu de ce), aflat undeva în picioare pe un trotuat acoperit cu frunze maronii și aurii. Era clar toamnă, aerul răcoros și cerul ușor înnorat. Respectivul domn era îmbrăcat elegant, într-un palton gros, lung până la glezne, de culoare verde cu picățele maronii, fabricat din lână, cu textura ușor aspră asemănătoare părții dure a unui burete de bucătărie (poate exagerez puțin) (precum în poza de sus). Dacă vreau să fiu și mai detaliată, mă gândesc la acel material textil care miroase ușor a balegă atunci când îl udă picăturile de ploaie.

Open nu are nimic dulce în el și îl încadrez în categoria de parfumuri așa-numite 100% masculine. Din mirosul emanat, nu mi se pare să conțină prea multe ingrediente. Cu siguranță este uniform pentru că nu-și schimbă aroma cu trecea timpului. Eu îl percep chiar puțin brut, adică nerotunjit intenționat. Și exact acest lucru mă atrage la el.

Nu simt să iasă în evidență niciuna dintre notele parfumante listate. Însă dacă mă uit la totalitatea lor, încep să înțeleg cum poate să fie un amestec de lămâie, portocală bergamotă, lavandă, salvie, cimbru, tutun, paciuli și vetiver. Open miroase clar aromat și nu simt nimic sintetic la el.

Acestea fiind zise, consider că esența parfumului o constituie nota afumat-acrișoară, puțin înțepătoare, care mie îmi miroase a frunze arse. La fel cum se întâmplă cu hainele și părul cuiva care stă lângă fumul degajat de acestea, și Open ar fi putut să miroasă îmbâcsit. Dar nici vorbă de așa ceva. Un anumit ingredient destinde compoziția și înclin să cred că este lavanda.

În același timp, parfumul degajă o ușoară amăreală ce mă duce cu gândul la gustul cojii de lămâie sau poate chiar la gustul resimțit atunci când bei apă după ce ai fumat.

Aroma lui Open o percep ca fiind rece și caldă în egală măsură; poate pentru că asimilez mirosul de frunze arse părții calde, iar lavanda și citricele părții reci.

Mai trebuie să menționez ceva. Există unele parfumuri bărbătești extrem de masculine care miros a săpun/ pin/ierbos pe unele persoane, pentru ca pe altele, același parfum să se transforme în ceva neplăcut, în aromă de sudoare. Un exemplu care îmi vine în minte acum este Quorum de Antonio Puig. Din ce observ, și Open urmează această cale. Dar inconvenientul de față nu îi scade din valoare în ochii mei.

Îmi place extrem de mult cum miroase Open. Și iată cum ceva bun nu trebuie să coste o avere.
